‘Appan Shikshya’ Radio Program

‘Appan Shikshya‘(Our Education) is a weekly radio program broadcast in the Maithili language from 6 FM radio stations: Radio Mithila and Janakpur FM in Dhanusha; Radio Rudrakshya and Radio Gaushala in Mahottari; and Radio Samagra and Radio Salhesh in Siraha. This program is produced in cooperation with Radio Mithila and in coordination with SFCG-Nepal and NCE-Nepal, as part of the Our Education Project of GoGo Foundation. The ‘Appan Shikshya’ radio program primarily aims to raise awareness among school management committees, parent-teacher associations, teachers, including child club members, about education-related rules and regulations. It showcases best practices in teaching and learning, amplifies the voices of teachers, students, guardians, and SMC members to foster improved school governance. Additionally, the program seeks to enhance the roles of civil society organizations to promote accountability and transparency in school education.

The inaugural episode of ‘Appan Shikshya’ aired on July 8, 2017, featuring uplifting messages of felicitation from notable figures in the education sector, including Mr. Shanta Shrestha, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Government of Nepal. The Our Education Project implemented in three Tarai districts: Dhanusha, Mahottari, and Siraha, encompassing 42 secondary-level public schools (16 in Dhanusa, 13 in Mahottari, and 13 in Siraha). This project, funded by the European Commission, commenced in August 2016 and concluded in March 2019.
